Ruthless and Intelligent Enemies
So much awesome on show!
Last night state-side was the Spike VGAs so I stayed up to watch the show in my bed via a live stream here are my thoughts on the night’s events!
The Trailers:

It looks good, it is good that Epic are spreading their wings a bit and doing something new. Will be interesting to see how the game works, a mix of co-op crafting then defending from the looks of it.

A genuine surprise that this is a Naughty Dog game. The trailer was a good introduction to the game, hopefully the gameplay will reflect the tension of the trailer. Limited resources like bullets and stuff would be cool and is rarely done in games.

While I’m still on the fence with BioWare making a RTS, Generals was the last C&C game I liked so it has certainly got my interest. I wonder if they will try to make a console version?

Continues to look amazing, I love the art style and feel of the game. The trailer paints a brilliant picture of the game in my mind. So while it only shows a couple of new things it still keeps my excitement for the game up at high levels

Never been a big fan of Rainbow Six but I like its fuck the 1% story! That should shift a few copies among the gamers of the occupy movement! (oooooh the irony!)

While nothing really new was shown it was good to see that BioWare are turing things up to eleven with the action in ME3. A massive set piece that puts a lot ME2’s best moments to shame.

I’ve never been a fan of Hitman so this trailer went over my head a fair bit. Liked the call out to Assassin’s Creed at the end though.

How the mighty have fallen! Once one of the biggest names in gaming Tony Hawk is now nothing more than a shadow of its former self. This remake of Tony Hawk 1&2 looks good but it shows that they really have run out of ideas for the franchise.

No game play shown and not much really told via the trailer either. Not fussed with Tekken anymore I got over it with the first Tekken Tag game.

Fun, cheesy and over the top. It looks quite good. Will be getting a further look from me for sure!

While it seems they are going down a more action orientated route and trying to give it a more grind house feel there is no improvement over the first game. It looks exactly the same it looks like they are going to expand the story a bit more with the evil Alan being the big bad but so for now it looks like a very expensive piece of DLC because they will charge as many MSPoints for this as possible.
The Awards Show Bit
For an awards show they all felt a bit pointless apart from the NFL cover voting, best character and game of the year that they made a big fuss over. The rest just happened very quickly and the last batch of awards was “given” via a VT towards the end of the show. Like 8 or so awards just skimmed over. A night of recognition for the developers my ass! The winners were all fairly predictable but they all deserved the awards they got. Good to see Zelda getting the first place in the hall of fame too.
Zachary Levi was a good host and his knowledge and love for gaming showed. The majority of people presenting the awards and introducing the trailers were a mixed bag. You had genuine gamers and people involved in the games industry like Seth Green then you had people like Charlie Sheen who was there because…..I don’t know why! The bits with Felicia Day while mostly there to fill time were fun because of Felicia Day! I seriously think she should present next years awards because she is felicia Day and she is awesome! The augmented reality stuff was cool if a bit pointless, just there to make things look fancy. The most annoying thing though was the adverts on the official stream! The same 3-4 adverts repeated all the way though it nearly drove me insane! I’m sure more advertisers would want to take part particularly as the VGAs is growing into a world wide event with every year.
I had to pre-order the collector’s N7 Edition of Mass Effect 3! I had to! It means I will have the complete set in large oversized boxes and that’s what its all about.
